Fullmetal Alchemist: Volume 1 by Hiromu Arakawa

Edward and Alphonse are brothers who are also Alchemists; they can change and mutate matter into other forms. However, they broke one of the most basic laws of their profession by attempting to raise the dead, and in punishment Al's spirit was confined to a suit of armor and Ed lost an arm and a leg, which he has replaced with metal prosthetics. The two brothers set out to find the Philosopher's Stone, which they hope will provide enough power to change them back to their true forms.

The characters are quite basic at this point, and the plot seems rather thin. The art is also basic, blocky, definitely not "pretty" and a bit rough around the edges. On the other hand, the character interaction is very good, and the characters themselves show promise. The plot may improve, and the setting is good.
