If a Tree Falls at Lunch Period, by Gennifer Choldenko
Kirsten and Walk are living completely different lives. Kirsten is white and Walk is African American. Kirsten's family is rich, Walk's family is poor. When Kirsten and Walk end up in the same private school for seventh grade, they are destined to become friends. Kirsten's best friend Rory is trying to be popular but Kirsten sees Rory's new friends for what they really are. Kirsten and Walk become friends. Then, Kirsten finds out that Walk is her half brother. Her little sister tells Walk and he is really upset. Walk feels betrayed. Finally Kirsten and Walk decide that they are who they are and they are friends.
I liked this book a lot. It was somewhat depressing, but you feel the characters feelings. Gennifer Choldenko changed the way I think.
