This book is a lot like the Harry Potter series but better. Percy Jackson, the main character has had a strange 12 years. When he starts to get attacked by monsters his mom takes him to Camp Half Blood. There he finds out that he is a son of Posiden. When Zeus accuses him of stealing the world's most powerful weapon he sets off on a quest with his friends Grover and Annabeth. They travel across the country to L.A. fighting monsters. When they reach L.A. they venture into the Underworld only to find that they have been tricked. They return the weapon and figure out that Hades was not to blame. Kronos, the Titan lord had convinced Luke, someone Percy thought was his friend to steal the weapon.
I liked this book a lot. There is a lot more action and adventure than some other books with the same basic story line. You see the story through Percy's eyes and you get scared. The writing is that good. The detail is fantastic. This and The Sea Of Monsters are both must reads.
