Dragon Rider, by Cornelia Funke

This is an intriguing story about a young boy, a silver dragon, and their struggle against the forces of evil. Evil takes its shape in the form of Nettlebrand, the Golden one, who was formed out of a philosopher's experiment gone wrong. Nettlebrand is an imitation of a dragon but is actually a dragon hunter seeking to destroy all remaining dragons on earth. As legend has it, the dragon rider from eons past would be reincarnated in the form of a small boy. The "small boy" will go through many adventures as he tries to find a haven for dragons on earth. The epic struggle between Nettlebrand and the dragon rider holds you in an iron grip of action and reinstates values of honesty and compassion in the reader.
