Roy is the new kid at school. On the bus his face gets mashed against the bus window. While he is stuck there, he sees this mysterious boy running like crazy with no shoes on. Later he meets a girl named Beatrice. Roy later discovers that the boy running with no shoes is named Mullet Fingers and that he is Beatrice's stepbrother. They stop a construction site that was going to be made into a pancake restaurant. Where they were going to build the restaurant had little rare and endangered burrowing owls that had already nested there. Hoot is a great action packed adventurist book! 5 Stars
